Obituary for
Donald Carl Ekberg
Donald Carl Ekberg, age 84 of Dayton, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born in Pitsburg, Ohio on November 10, 1932 the son of George Oscar & Josephine Nellie (Flatter) Ekberg. He was a graduate of the University of Dayton and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Price Brothers Pipe Company in Dayton where he was an accountant for over 40 years. He was very active in the North Riverdale, Shiloh and Ft. McKinnley Little League Baseball and Softball Associations for over 25 years where he had served as a coach, umpire and president.
He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Shirley Jane (Myers) Ekberg; 4 sons Randy (Debbie) Ekberg, Tim (Linda) Ekberg, Matthew (Sheri) Ekberg and David (Carla) Ekberg; 13 grandchildren Lacy (Eric) Koogler, Brian Ekberg, Andrew Ekberg, Leslie Ekberg, Jason Meeks, Chad Meeks, Sara Ekberg, Ryan Ekberg, Lyndsey Ekberg, Robert Ekberg, Tyler Ekberg, Noah Ekberg and Abbigail Ekberg; 15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Vivian Ekberg and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Jessica Ekberg and his twin brother Rev. Ron Ekberg.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the BLESSING-ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – Southern Ohio Chapter, 2300 Wall St. Suite H, Cincinnati, Ohio 45212.
