Obituary for Ray Emerson Fry

Ray Emerson Fry, age 93 of Dayton, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 in his residence. He was born in Hollandsburg, Ohio on May 7, 1924 the son of Dwight & Stella (Shuttleworth) Fry. Ray was in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. His first stop was in Guadalcanal in January 1944. On August 29, 1945 he was in Leyte in the Philippines, at 2:30 am he was using a forklift to load 155 Howitzer with no detonators, the next load had the detonators, it was pouring rain and the forklift turned over and broke his right leg. He was transported to the hospital at Cambridge, Ohio where he was ultimately discharged. Ray retired from Delco Products, Dayton and Kettering buildings, on July 30, 1985 after over 39 years. After retirement he enjoyed a large garden but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Carolyn (Alan) Humble, son Don (Carla) Fry; grandson Christopher Fry (Tonya Mossbarger); granddaughter Angela (George) Hagedon; great grandsons Nathaniel Mossbarger and Lucas Hagedon; special niece Marilyn Fry (John) Strawser; cousin Ralph Schwabb and many other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 66 years Pearl Webb Fry in 2014, a brother Carl Fry and a sister Imogene Hill.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the BLESSING-ZERKLE FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City, Ohio 45371 with Pastor Donnie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s memory to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420. Condolences may be made to the family thru this online guestbook.
