Bernice M. Smith of Englewood, OH, 87 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Bernice was born in Paintsville, KY on March 12, 1929 to Harrison and Julia Meek. She graduated from Meade Memorial High School in 1947. She was a member of Vandalia Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed her Sunday School class and the Classics Group whose members continued to visit her weekly. Bernice retired from Inland after 30 years of service.
Bernice leaves to mourn her passing her devoted children Don (Sheila) Snyder, Donovan Smith, Debbie Sloan & Pam (Tom) Russell; grandchildren Kevin Snyder, Andrea Smith, Billy Sloan, Brandy Russell, Julie (Jamie) Johnson & Lauren Schindler as well as her adored great grandchildren Riley, Tyler and Tanner. She is also survived by her sister Vina McLaughlin, her sister-in-law Rosemary Meek, her many loving nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Lorena Roffe.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Melvin in 2003 and their beloved son, Jon David, in 2000. She was also predeceased by her siblings Mildred Ring, Margie Barker, Ethel Preston, Roma Meek, Herbert Meek and her twin sister, Bea Brown. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living who provided their mom with such loving care over the years.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Blessing-Zerkle Funeral Home, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Tipp City, OH with Pastor John Seagraves officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
