Obituary for Donovan L. Aldrich

Donovan Leroy Aldrich, age 89 of Union passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in Englewood Manor. He was born in Brookville, Ohio on October 26, 1920 the son of Otto B. & Lydia M. (Hodson) Aldrich. He was a former Brookville Mayor in 1949. He retired in February 1982 from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Inspector for the Civil Division after 20 years of service. He loved to fly, play his guitar and golf.
He is survived by his daughter Linda (Gary) Sonner of Union, son Philip (Dianne) Aldrich of Virginia, daughter-in-law Marie Aldrich of Dayton, grandchildren Patrick (Martha) Sonner, Sean (Leah) Sonner, Lisa Garnett, Andrew Aldrich, David Aldrich, Donna (Joe) Somuk, George (Bridget) Aldrich, Christine Schmude, Josh Schmude, and John Schmude, and 8 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 61 years in 2002 Evelyn (Reese) Aldrich, daughter Delores Aldrich in 1949, son George Aldrich in 2008 and 8 brothers and sisters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the BLESSING FUNERAL HOME, 11900 N. Dixie Dr. Tipp City. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Father Derrick Fetz officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Donovan’s memory to Leukema and Lymphoma Society, 2300 Wall St. Suite H Cincinnati, Ohio 45212 or to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave. Dayton, Ohio 45420.
